For starters, Happycockers is not a Puppymill! We do not approve of puppymills and we do everything we can to make sure that none of our precious baby's go to a suspected puppymill. We have a litter of pups approximately every 2 years. Shoot, my wife and I agree it takes about 2 years to recover after we have a litter due to the amount of love and care we put into them. To explain further, our last 2 litters all had to be bottled fed. This meant around the clock feedings for the first 6 weeks or so with only my wife and I to take shifts. This last litter(2008) of 9 pups by the time you got through one feeding, it was time to start again. Most people don't understand the intensity of the situation. First we had to color-code the pups and match them to a color coded chart that we created to monitor weight, amount ate, bowel movements, and overall condition EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY ATE! The main reason for this is if one should fall behind and not eat enough it can cause dehydration and instantaneous fevers. At this point, if a pup were to miss a feeding, they could die. Nerve racking to say the least. Now, let's not talk about the amount of sleep we are not allowed to have... When bottle feeding, I realize it all looks so sweet in the pictures, but, let's not forget the other end! Normally, when the Mother feeds the pups, she licks their bottoms to stimulate bowel movements. Since my wife and I were not about to do this, we used a damp paper towel to simulate this process. But we included something that the Mother doesn't do and we feel like this is the key to why they are so special. We developed our own method of neurological stimulation very similar to the new processes that you may have read about. Ours differs in small ways but may be better in others. We researched and researched and researched and took the best of all we found and compounded it into our own methodology. We have found, that our pups develop faster, are smart, coordinated, and healthy. They learn fast and they are more attached to humans than your average puppy. There is a down side to this. For instance, when you discover an 8 week old puppy that has successfully opened the cabinet door where the dog bones are stored and passed out the whole bag to the other pups. Another fine example is when you find out that your dogs love water so much that they take turn bathing in the water dish or hop into the tub with you uninvited. We have found that we have to puppy proof the entire house the same way you would for a 2 year old child. The upsite of all this is pups that are so in tuned with people they can learn the commands sit, come, stay, and more in minutes. The bottom line is we have never loss a puppy and we can only hope and pray that we never do. If anyone would ever like our help or would like to learn more about how we reared pups, do not hesitate to contact us.
